In the apartment

Hi!Now being practically a Florence local, living in my apartment, having my coffee routine, I am settled in and dreading the first day of classes. After my day in Pisa and getting moved into my apartment I have spent the last few days getting settled into life with my seven roommates, my no functional heating system and my kitchen built for one but housing eight. However, with the romantic street view and access to all the sights, it is hard to complain.

Day one moving in was a bit chaotic, with coordinating picking up keys, grabbing spastic coffee in the middle of the move in day and realizing that half of our amenities don’t work, we ended up getting settled in, just in time for me to spend my last night in my airbnb and have the crew come over to use the hot water available in my place. The next morning I woke up and moved out of my place, in time to head over for a day of orientation seminars about housing, living in Italy and what we should expect as American students living abroad. That evening we ate dinner as a group in a family friend's villa in the hillside of Florence and enjoyed a chaotic bus ride back into the city late at night. The next few days were a bit of a blur, with the morning routine of grabbing coffee at Ditta and strolling the streets finding new panini shops and cool hangout spots, we all bonded as roomies, hosted dinner parties and made our way to a few late night drink spots including one speakeasy.

Yesterday I made my way to the small town of Lucca, stationed outside of Florence in the rolling hills of Tuscany but tucked away between the coast and the inland towns. After popping off the hour long train ride from Florence, I made it into the old walled city and walked around the city while listening to gregory alan iskov and people watching my way through the walking path. Once cruising around the outside of the city I walked through the narrow streets, listening to street singers and going into a few local churches before grabbing a cappuccino and panini. Maybe one of the best sandwiches I have ever with salmon, dill, crema cheese, poppy seeds and a hint of lemon. After a fun snack session I made my way to a bench where I read and doodled before heading back to the train station and making it back to florence.
